Since 2017, browsers have considered SSL certificates a basic requirement for a secure website. If a user accesses a website without an SSL certificate, they'll be alerted that the site is not secure and that they should not use their credentials on it.

The good news is that the most common type of SSL certificate, Domain Validation (DV), is already included in all Infinite plans. This standard certificate, offered for free by Infinite and most hosting services, provides sufficient protection for all types of websites.

You only need to consider alternative SSL certificates in specific situations:

• If you need to cover all subdomains (e.g., *.site.com), you'll need a Wildcard SSL certificate.
• If your company requires an Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificate for added security.

In most cases, the standard DV certificate is all you need, and you won't need to pay extra for it or a dedicated IP address.

• Search engine ranking: A website's speed is a key factor in search engine rankings.
• Conversion rates: Users tend to abandon sites that take more than 3 seconds to load, negatively impacting conversion rates.
• User experience: Slow sites are less likely to be shared on social media, according to studies.
